At Blackburn Fork Farm, our Maremma LGD's are integral partners in keeping predators away from our livestock. A breed that originates from Italy, Maremmas are excellent paddock dogs that do not have tendencies in roaming. They fit perfectly on small, family farms.
Gladis is five years old, and keeps a watchful eye on our younger dogs. We have been very happy with the work she has done here on the farm. She has a gentle soul and has been an excellent guardian to the livestock. We often find her patrolling the perimeter of the property at dusk. Currently, she is caretaking a beautiful litter of nine pups. Gladis is 100% Maremma and certified with Maremma Sheepdog Club of America.
Irie, short for Ireland, is the daughter of Gladis. She is now two, and we plan to breed her for the first time later this summer. She is a high energy guard dog that maintains a visual vigilance on the land that is unmatched. She is always the first to let everyone know what she sees. Irie is 100% maremma and registered with the Maremma Sheepdog Club of America.
Hilda, short for Hildegard, is still a pup, but just celebrated her first year. We received Hilda as a puppy from a Benedictine community, Mother, Queen of Peace in southern North Carolina. So she is the official saint of our LGDs, but she doesn't plan to enter the vow of celibacy:) Hilda has spent the majority of her life with our flock. If we go out to the field, Hilda will visit us, but immediately return to the flock. They are her family and responsibility. She is a slightly smaller dog but fierce. She is 100% maremma, but we currently do not have her certified.
